Quick Answer: GuestPoint does not naturally support Day Use bookings (where you have one booking in a room checked out for Today, and you want to place another booking in that room for Today). We do not support Day Use Bookings for online bookings/channel managers.
However, there is a work around on the Reservation Plan that will allow you to manually create a Day Use booking onto the system by "stacking" it on top of an existing checked out booking.
GuestPoint & Day Use Bookings
GuestPoint does not naturally support Day Use Bookings but there are workarounds to manually create a Day Use Booking on our system.
However, we do not support Day Use Bookings for online bookings/channel managers, the methods below usually only apply to a direct Email/Phone/Walk-in scenario.
A Day Use Booking typically involves a scenario where a room has checked out early Today for whatever reason and you wish to sell the room again for Today.
- You are fully booked for today and it is your last room
- You are not fully booked but it is your last room for that room type
The workaround method for this allows you to "stack" a Day Use Booking on top of a Checked Out booking on the Reservation Plan.
As the Day Use Booking stacks on top of the Checked Out booking, you will no longer be able to find your Checked Out booking by clicking on it on the Reservation Plan, but you can still find it by searching for the booking instead.
Please find below mandatory set-up steps and the method to create a Day Use Booking on GuestPoint in following scenarios:
- You are fully booked for today and it is your last room
- You are not fully booked but it is your last room for that room type
Mandatory Setup - Increasing your Max Overallocation for your Room Type
Before you start, you will need to increase your Max Over Allocation setting for your desired room type.
The Max Over Allocation setting determines how many extra bookings you can create for a room type once all inventory is depleted for a particular stay date.
A Day Use Booking typically involves going over your max possible inventory for one stay date.
How to increase your Max Over Allocation
- Navigate to Management > Setup tab > Rooms & Room Types > Room Types tab
- Find the room type you are creating a Day Use booking for and expand it out by clicking on it
- Set the 'Max Over Allocation' field to a number more than 0. We recommend setting 1 to start off.
- Save Changes in bottom right.

Common Misconception with Max Over Allocation
Max Over Allocation does not affect your online inventory in any shape or manner.
This setting will not cause overbookings from online bookings via your channel manager or GuestPoint Booking Engine.
How to Create a Day Use Booking - Step by Step
This is the most common method to use if you are fully booked out at 100% occupancy and you wish to re-sell a room that has checked out early already.
The same method applies if you are not fully booked and wish to re-sell a room which has no inventory left for that room type.
In below example, we will make a Day Use Booking in Room 1 who already has a Checked Out booking.
Step by Step
- Ensure you have followed the mandatory set-up instructions above in adjusting the Max Over Allocation number for your room type to at least 1.
- On the Reservation Plan, proceed to '+ New Reservation' button in top-right hand corner.
- Select your room type, your Room Number with the Checked Out booking should appear as selectable

- Fill in your booking details and create your Day Use Booking, you will see it will stack on top of the old Checked Out booking in the same room.
You will also notice your occupancy percentage levels going above 100% in this scenario.

You will no longer be able to find the old checked out booking by clicking on it on the Reservation Plan due to the Day Use booking stacking on top of it.
However, you can find the old booking with the Reservation Search function.
Creating a Day Use Booking by Shuffling Another Room into the Checked Out Room
This method is similar to the first method but involves shuffling an existing booking on top of the Checked Out room. Usually the first method is sufficient and this method is not required.
Method is applicable when it involves a room type change, perhaps a guest no longer requires a Twin Room and can use a Queen room instead.
Once the room is shuffled out, there is then space to create your 'Day Use Booking'.
In below example, we will shuffle Room 11 into Room 1
Step by Step
- Ensure you have followed the mandatory set-up instructions above in adjusting the Max Over Allocation number for both room types to at least 1.
- On the Reservation Plan, open the booking belonging to the room you are shuffling
- Change the room type to the destination room you are shuffling into and select that room number.
Save your changes.

- The room will now shuffle on top of the Checked Out room in Room 1.
You can create your new booking in the available space in Room 11 now.
Do ensure that you have set the Max Over Allocation for both room types in this scenario to 1.

You will no longer be able to find the old checked out booking by clicking on it on the Reservation Plan due to the Day Use booking stacking on top of it.
However, you can find the old booking with the Reservation Search function.
