On the Reservation Plan, the usual way to create a reservation is usually by double left-clicking an empty cell box on the Reservation Plan, or clicking the blue "+ New Reservation" button on the top-right hand corner.
There is a faster way to do this for individual reservations or group reservations, as long as their stay dates fit on your computer screen.
This is a quality-of-life feature that can save you a lot of administration time on a daily basis.
STEP BY STEP KEYBOARD & MOUSE SHORTCUT METHOD
A quick 30 second video is attached to this article that shows what this shortcut method visually looks like for a Group Reservation.
For individual reservations, you can stop after the first room selection.
Please see "Attachments" section at the bottom of this article to see the video.
To start this method, navigate to the main Reservation Plan screen on GuestPoint and locate your desired stay dates.
You don't need to drag the screen left and right to navigate to historical/future stay dates if this is what you are doing.
You can simply make use of the two date selection functions on the top-left corner of the Reservation Plan.
Clicking on the first calendar icon will bring you back to Today's Date.
Clicking on the Date calendar will bring up a date selection for you to navigate to your desired historical or future stay date.
Ensure the number of rooms & stay dates you are adding fits the screen, else this method does not work and you will need to use the "+ New Reservation" button instead.
Prepare yourself to do the following keyboard & mouse combinations. It is very important you hold down the Shift Key the entire time.
1. Hold down Left Shift Key during this entire process. Do not let go until the end.
2. Select an empty cell box on the Reservation Plan with left mouse-click.
3. While holding down the left mouse-click, drag your mouse to the right for however many nights the room is staying. Do not let go of both shift key and left mouse.
4. Once you have finished with one room's nights, let go of JUST the left mouse button. Do not let go of your shift key.
5. If this was an individual reservation, you can let go of your shift key and the New Reservation screen will appear with your stay dates, room type, and room number already inputted.
6. If this is a Group Reservation, proceed to hold down shift key and repeat steps 2 - 4 until all rooms are selected. Do not let go of your shift key.
7. Let go of the Shift Key once all selected and you will see the New Reservation screen with all your rooms.
8. Click on the blue "Group Reservation" button to change the reservation type into a proper Group Reservation.
